Toe Drains are an open-jointed or perforated pipe located at the bottom, or the toe, of the dam used as a conjunction with horizontal drainage ways at the wall banks and the foundation. This type of drain transfers the water pressure to allow a moderate amount of seepage force to a location downstream from the dam. This drain can be applied in lakes and ponds as well. It brings benefits such as reduced piping, and pushing the static water into moving water by pressure from the slope and within the embankment. A toe drain is a small water gate that is built within an embankment at a slope. The gate is used to collect seepage from the foundation and embankment and convey it through a free outlet going downstream.
